THE BREATHWORK MEDICINE CABINET: Simple Breathing Tools to Change Your State

September 9 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Wednesday, September 9, 2026

Potluck 6:30 PM | Circle 7:30–9:30 PM

Breath comes on its own

Your intention can shift it

Change your BodyMind

You breathe all day, every day, usually without giving it a thought. Your body simply takes care of it.

But breathing is unusual: it happens automatically, yet you can also take conscious control of it. And by changing the way you breathe, you can influence the way you feel.

Feeling anxious or stressed? Can’t switch off at bedtime? Running low on energy? Feeling flat, scattered, or stuck?

Different ways of breathing can support very different states. A slower breath with a longer exhale can help settle an activated nervous system and shift us from fight-or-flight toward rest-and-digest. Other breathing patterns can energize, sharpen attention, or lift your mood.

Think of it as a breathwork medicine cabinet: a collection of simple tools you can reach for depending on what your BodyMind needs in the moment.

This will be an experiential evening, not a lecture. We’ll explore a variety of breathing practices together; some calming, some energizing, some balancing, and some designed to take us more deeply inward. Mariel will guide most of the evening, with a few guest participants invited to share practices from their own breathwork experience.

We’ll draw from both ancient and contemporary approaches to conscious breathing, including yogic pranayama and modern breathwork practices. You’ll have a chance to experience the differences for yourself and leave with simple techniques you can continue experimenting with at home.

We’ll also explore another dimension of breathwork. Sometimes the intention isn’t to change how you’re feeling, but to go more deeply into what you’re feeling. Longer, connected breathing practices can become tools for self-inquiry, bringing awareness to emotions, sensations, and habitual patterns that may ordinarily remain beneath the surface.

No previous experience with breathwork, meditation, or yoga is needed. Come as you are, breathe as you are, and discover just how much possibility there is in something you’ve been doing since the moment you were born.

Your Host

Mariel Camilleri has explored conscious breathing for more than five decades, beginning with yoga and pranayama at age 11. Her experience includes Clarity Breathwork (formerly Rebirthing), Wim Hof breathing, Art of Living practices, and Holotropic Breathwork with its founder, Dr. Stanislav Grof.

For this Wonderful Wednesday, Mariel brings these diverse influences together in a playful, experiential exploration of one of the simplest tools we have for changing our state: our own breath.
